Harish Abbott, cofounder and CEO of supply chain AI company Augment, describes the pre-AI system of calls and emails as imposing a “coordination tax” that leads to waste and unnecessary delays in transporting goods. “Trucks have to wait, they go empty miles, warehouses have to have underutilized labor, or businesses have to carry more inventory,” he says.

The integration is designed to reduce the administrative work associated with carrier sourcing.

McLeod Software has integrated Augment’s AI assistant into its PowerBroker transportation management system, automating two of freight brokerage’s most time-consuming tasks: carrier selection and shipment tracking.

Every large fleet chasing AI eventually runs into the same fork in the road: buy a partner solution or build the technology in-house. Hirschbach Motor Lines picked a partner, and the trucking carrier is now automating driver communication through an AI agent built by Augment.

Johnstone Supply Heartland Group (JSHG) has selected Augment as its AI partner. Part of the Johnstone Supply Group — a leading HVACR distributor with more than $4 billion in combined revenue — JSHG is deploying Augie, Augment’s flagship AI teammate, to automate sales order entry, enhance back-office operations, and accelerate its quote-to-cash process.

Augment was named an AI Solution Provider winner in FreightWaves' 2026 AI Excellence in Supply Chain Awards. A record 60 nominations, produced 15 honorees across two categories.

Annual program recognizes Breakthrough Innovation across logistics, procurement, automation and AI-driven supply chain solutions.

Freight AI pilots succeed. Production deployments often don't. Augment CEO Harish Abbott, featured on FreightCaviar, discusses the change management gap and what ops leaders need to do before the tech even matters.

FreightCaviar's Freight Gong Friday, is joined by Harish Abbott, CEO, Co- Founder of Augment, Alex Moazed, President Wholesale Distribution of Augment, Oliver Jones, Founder & CEO of Manifold, Trey Griggs, Chief Revenue Officer of Manifold, and Eyal Cohen, Founder and CEO of Humble Robotics, as the special guests.

Seeking greater visibility into how freight is generated and fulfilled, Augment has acquired Merlin, an artificial intelligence startup focused on wholesale distribution, and will integrate its technology into Augie, the company’s flagship AI platform.

With this acquisition, Augment now offers distributors a single AI platform that adapts to each organization’s workflows through natural language rather than custom code.

In an opinion piece, Harish argues that while AI pilots in logistics often look promising, real success comes only when AI is deeply integrated into messy, legacy systems and live workflows—where it can reliably reduce manual workload, cognitive strain, and operational friction at scale.

Freight’s AI winners won’t be the flashiest tools but the firms that survive integrations, politics, and trust gaps—most companies will standardize on one or two models.

Harish indicated that the genesis of Knowledge Hub was existing Augie users seeking answers to questions that are often posed by on the ground logistics professionals needing timely information or insight.

For decades, the industry treated the 5:00 handoff as an unavoidable feature of freight operations, dictated by human availability and legacy systems. Those constraints are now easing. Here's why.

Augment announced the release of Knowledge Hub within Augie, a "ChatGPT"- like tool dedicated to your company's operations.

Knowledge Hub is designed to turn scattered tribal knowledge into execution-ready intelligence and help logistics teams make faster, more consistent decisions.
