What is invoice variance in freight?
Invoice variance is the gap between what a carrier invoices for a load and what the broker expected to pay based on the rate confirmation. On a single load it's a rounding error. Across thousands of loads a quarter, uncaught variance is margin leaving the business one invoice at a time.
How deep does Augie's invoice audit go — does it check line items and accessorials?
It reads the invoice total and compares it to your expected cost. No line items, no accessorials, no lumper receipts. If you need line-level audit, that's not what this is, and there are products built specifically for that. What this is good at: making sure the invoice arrives, hits the right load, and gets corrected with the carrier when it's wrong.
Does Augie release invoices to billing automatically?
Only if you turn it on. The default is that Augie collects, compares, and files, then forwards or uploads the audited invoice for your team to release. Auto-release is something you enable later, once you've watched the variance detection run and trust it.
What happens when carriers don't send invoices?
That's the reason this runs on the POD channel instead of as a separate process. Augie is already chasing those carriers for proof of delivery, so the invoice request rides the same outreach. Non-responsive carriers escalate to your team the same way a missing POD does today.
Will this reduce AP headcount?
